Description
This wooden baking mold was hand-carved by my dad, Otto Werner (1923 - 1991). Based on traditional design with a contemporary vision, this magnificent relief carving of the traditional European image of Saint Nicholas is carved with a bishop's miter (hat) and crozier (staff). The tub with three children represents the story of his rescuing children murdered by an evil butcher - the most popular St. Nicholas story in France. The carved image is surrounded by an in-laid strip of metal which is designed to be a cutting tool for easy cutting of the cookie dough. Created with exquisite craftsmanship, attention to detail and design, this lovely solid piece of wood with very smooth surface and well aged patina is now part of a New Zealand collection.
Add a classical touch to your country kitchen or create warmth in your contemporary space with an art print, canvas print, acrylic print or poster of this original one-of-a-kind carving. Also wonderful as bakery wall art.
Hand-carved wood baking molds such as this, also called spekulatius molds, springerle cookie molds, Oecher Prente Form and Aachener Printen Formen, are used to shape large gingerbread cookies, Aachener Printen, Oecher Prente and springerle cookies.
