I took this photo of the Grand River behind our home as I watched in awe as the sun rose behind the frosty trees across the river. Last week's flood had washed huge ice floes onto the river bank that glowed in the morning sunrise on the freshly fallen snow. As the ice flowed downstream in the swollen river it eventually dwindled and left the river subsided and calm. Where last week's higher river level had begun to freeze, as the water level went back to normal, it left the trees looking like they were wearing tutus. The morning sunrise through the rising mist created a beautiful winter ballet. Life is awesome!
The Grand River in southern Ontario, Canada meanders southwards from its source in Wareham near the Bruce Peninsula of Lake Huron through many towns and cities, including my city of Cambridge, before it empties into the north shore of Lake Erie. My heart soars with these beautiful winter views. The raw uncomplicated beauty of the frozen landscape calls me to come out for a walk and closer inspection - I can't resist!
