The warm glow of a romantic cottage fireplace and cuddling under a Hudson's Bay blanket with a friend is a natural setting for making plans for the future. Peace and love spawn hope and dreams.
Admittedly, this watercolor painting would probably appeal more to men than to women; however, the warmth emanating from the fireplace in contrast to the frosty window adds an element of romance that some women cannot resist. Featured in this still life log cabin scene are snowshoes, fishing tackle, fishing basket and duck decoys. A hurricane lamp and a couple of autumn maple leaves huddled in the sunny window suggest that it is the season for rough weather.
I composed this painting from elements using many different photos as reference. The snow shoes came from one photo, fishing tackle from another, etc. I composed the arrangement of duck decoys, fishing basket, etc. to please my eye. The tricky part was combining two light sources - the cool light from the window and warm glow...
