Description
At the request of the company, my assignment was to illustrate the historical story of how Mayor McBride of Brantford met H.F. Johnson Founder of Johnson's Wax on the train as he was passing through Brantford, Ontario and convinced him to open a Canadian Operation in Brantford in 1920.
After researching archived photos of each man, black-and-white photos of trains of that era and taking photos of the Brantford train station that still exists today, I composed this painting to commemorate the landmark moment. It was a challenge to include all the required elements, make the men look as though they were engaged in a natural conversation, create a believable perspective and unify the piece with exterior natural light and interior artificial light sources to make the painted illustration look authentic.
Thank you to all who voted for my painting in this contest:

Hi Hanne~~I used to love dining on the train when crossing Canada, never tiring of the beauty of Canada as we passed it- I had grandparents in both B.C. and Quebec. Your beautiful watercolor brings back many fine memories of when I was in my younger years! I never tire of your fine work. F&L&Twt!!

A ride back in time for me! Great image, that reminds me of days gone by...clickety-clack, the smell of rich cigars when I dined there, and wish I could ride that train again.
